Standing at the Crossroads

This past April, I turned 21. I realize that is a landmark age – one that we all wait for. It is like the “official” age of adulthood. Now, being in my fourth year at UVA and working as hard on finding my place in the world of work upon graduation as I am on my school work and other activities here now, I find myself being at a crossroads in life of where I have been and where I am getting ready to go.

Picture of me!
I have had a great life. I have been blessed with awesome parents who have given me a great sense of love, security, and self-confidence. In addition, they raised me to learn the value of hard work, doing your best, reaching for your dreams, and the importance of knowing right from wrong. I know I am fortunate to have such a great family – one that I love to be with, am close to, and proud of.

Looking back, my life has always been filled with activity and I am fortunate to have been able to do so many things and see so many places. I would summarize my life thus far as one that has been rewarding, happy and successful. I was as active as I could be in high school and kept a full schedule of extra-curricular activities and responsibilities each and every year. In my senior year, I was elected President of the Student Council Association and Captain of the Varsity Soccer team (as well as being Captain of my travel soccer team.) Taking on leadership roles was something I had become accustomed to and I always feel privileged to serve. My classmates honored me with electing me to Senior Homecoming Court and voting me as “Most Dedicated” in the senior superlatives. Upon graduation, I not only received special recognition for graduating with a 4.25 gpa, but was also honored to receive one of only a few Leadership awards given.

I never thought about all of this too much – it is just what I did and what I loved to do. But I have come to realize that I have been blessed with some innate leadership qualities and abilities and it is a strength I have to offer and one that I want to use and develop in my career. I have also realized that much of the happiness I have derived from my involvement, is the realization that my involvement makes a difference.

My years here at The University of Virginia have been incredible – UVA is one of the most amazing schools in the country. In addition to the top-notch academic program, the sheer beauty of the grounds, and the great people I have met, UVA has so much more to offer. I have particularly enjoyed my time, and service, to the UVA Men’s Club Soccer team, as a 4th Year Class Trustee, and a member of Phi Kappa Psi fraternity. I will surely miss my days at UVA.

I’m currently seeking a professional job which will best utilize my computer, interpersonal and leadership skills. I am highly motivated and am eager to begin work. You may view my resume here:

I’ve owned the domain name rossgilmore.com since my junior year in high school. Initially a campaign tool used when I ran for school President, I now use it for all sorts of things – from storing pictures, to blogging, to hosting an online forum, and to keeping my calendar. In addition to being very useful and a good place to learn and experiment, it has also just been fun for my family, my friends, and me!

Thanks for visiting my site! Here’s to all the 4th years looking for life after UVA!

Vail and Club Soccer Videos!

Since I reorganized my web site and had to reupload some videos, I thought I’d post them here again. The first is a video I created of my snowboarding trip to Vail, Colorado last January. The second is a video Beau and I made for Club Soccer. We showed it to the new guys for Initiation.

Donate to Hurricane Katrina Relief

As you all know, Hurricane Katrina has wrecked havok on Louisiana and Mississippi.. particularly New Orleans. Many of us have friends or family who were directly affected – losing houses, valuables, and maybe even lives. If you can, donate money to help those still in the city and the rebuilding efforts. Click here to donate through the Red Cross. If you’re at the UVA football game this weekend, many students will be tabling for donations as well. Keep everyone from New Orleans in your thoughts and prayers..
